Abstract

The article reveals the little-known pages of the life and work of the German teacher Johann-Christoph Friedrich Guts-Muths (1759-1839), the creator of the system of physical education. His work in the philanthropy at the Schnepfenthal estate is highlighted. The essence of his ideas is shown in the light of the current political situation in the German states. The content of the books written by Guts-Muths is characterized. Attention is paid to his followers. 2024 marks the 265th anniversary of the birth of this great German educator.
