Starlight: Development of Writing Skills in High School Students Considering the Changes in the Unified State Exam

The article examines the development of writing skills through the adaptation of educational materials "Starlight 10", specifically considering changes in the Unified State Exam for English. The mastery of written and oral skills is a crucial component of learning the English language, and the methods for developing writing skills are directly related to the assessment system. Therefore, changes in the Unified State Exam in English require a revision of approaches to teaching writing skills in Federal State Educational Standards educational materials. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using the texts from "Starlight 10" for developing writing skills of 10th-grade students required for task No. 38 of the Unified State Exam in English. The results of the study are presented, and possible transformations of the texts and tasks of the educational materials are outlined to familiarize students with the examination format and develop the skills needed to write a thematic written statement with elements of reasoning based on a table or diagram. The proposed task system was tested among 10th-grade students in a Moscow school and showed high results. Overall, this article highlights the importance of adapting educational materials to meet changing assessment systems and provides evidence for the effectiveness of using specific materials in developing writing skills for the Unified State Exam in EnglishReferences
