The Arctic zone is currently a strategic target for Russia, as it has huge raw material reserves. The deterioration of the ecology in the Arctic zone and the areas of the Far North entails the problems of further existence and survival of these territories, and, consequently, the resulting loss of the available resources. The author presents the overview of scientific and practical studies, confirming the relevance of the subject of the chosen research. The paper identifies the specific types of waste resulting from the consequences of nuclear explosions and discharges of radioactive products into the water, which have had an extremely negative impact on the ecology of the Arctic zone. The author provides the results of the statistical analysis of the volume of waste resulting from economic activities of enterprises and human activity in the regions of the Arctic zone between 2016 and 2020. The paper considers the factors complicating the performance of the waste management system in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and the Far North regions, the main types of these wastes, as well as the possible solution of environmentally hazardous problems employing reverse logistics methods. The role of the state in the waste management in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation is specifically highlighted. The author draws the final conclusions concerning the need to modernize the waste management system in the Arctic zone and the areas of the Far North.Downloads
