The word Inquisition (from the Latin inquisitio “Investigation”) still now inspires fear. This punitive body, set up to combat heresy, was born in the bosom of the Catholic Church and has spread in almost all the countries of medieval Europe. In Spain the Inquisition Tribunal or Suprema appeared at the end of the XV century during the reign of the Catholic Kings, Ferdinand and Isabella. This article provides an overview of the first documents (papal letters, royal orders, etc.) that caused the establishment of the Inquisition in medieval Spain. The author cites some fragments of the texts in Latin and old Spanish (Castilian romance) and does the author’s translation into Russian.Downloads
