Abstract

The article shows the necessity of taking account of the effect which the globalization process of economic development has an effect on the degree of viability of the territory (region, city).The relationship between «sustainable development» and «resilience development» has been examined. The article substantiates the necessity of supporting small and medium-sized businesses in the field of industrial production as the most vitality, forming the necessary level of scientific and technical knowledge and skills of managers and staff. The paper underlines the role of local communities in elaboration and implementation of the strategy of territorial development. Approach to the development of the territory from the perspective of its viability may contribute to its transition to the path of accelerated development.
